How I Write
I’ve got two middle grade novels, two picture books (with illustrations), and one young adult novel now in my active queue. I try to write everyday, one-to-two thousand words. Each morning I sit down and I work on whichever story calls to me. They don’t get worked on in linear order–some need to percolate, some need to charge ahead. They’re all different: one is fantasy/social satire, another is quantum physics, one is nature, one is adventure. At first I wondered if this was an okay way to write stories–so jumpy–but as it seems to be the way I write stories, and as the operative thing for a writer is to write, then jumpy or no, my particular style works for me.
